Amid tension between China and South Korea over THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) and rumors that this situation is taking a toll on Hallyu stars’ overseas promotions, actor Song Joong-ki has made some clarifications.
Rumors said that a $8 million Chinese drama offer for Song Joong-ki was cancelled due to the situation surrounding the THAAD conflict between South Korea and China.
A representative spoke to AllKpop on behalf of Song Joong-ki, “He did receive many offers for Chinese dramas and movies, but nothing was confirmed. Therefore, the word cancellation does not make sense in this situation.”
Soompi reported that Song Joong-ki’s agency Blossom Entertainment also addressed reports about the actor being affected by THAAD.
A source from the agency spoke with TV Daily and said, “It’s true that Song Joong-ki is receiving a variety of casting offers for dramas and films in China. However, we have not discussed his appearance in any project yet. The only project he has confirmed his casting for following ‘Descendants of the Sun’ is the film ‘Battleship Island.’”
The Blossom Entertainment source further clarified, “This is the first time we have heard of that drama and the casting fee of 100 million yuan.”
