If you’ve seen it, you’re aware its pungent smell can be nauseating. Bring it indoors and all your neighbors will know you have it. Some call it “the world’s smelliest fruit.”

With its sharp brown/green spikes, it doesn’t look appetizing. It’s also downright heavy (2~7 lbs). This is why it’s called the ‘King of Fruits.’

Yes, it’s durian — Southeast Asia’s ubiquitous and widely popular fruit.

You can eat it raw to savor the creamy texture and sweetness. But durian can also be prepared in a variety of dishes. It can be roasted, made into a host of deserts like ice cream, cakes, and pastry puffs.

A durian tart desert even made it to the June 30 inauguration meal for President Rodrigo Duterte in the Philippines.  In China, Thai durian pizza is one of the most ordered dishes at the Shanghai restaurant, Blue & Brown. 

Durian is rich in potassium, dietary fiber, iron, and vitamin C &B complex and helps strengthen muscle, lower blood pressure, and improve your skin.
