Sangwan showed his might against Mongolian opponent Erdenebayar Sandagsuren, posting a easy win (3-0) in the pre-quarterfinal round.
If Sangwan wins the next round, he will gain a spot for the Rio Olympics that starts on August 5.
At the 2012 London Olympics, he participated in the light heavyweight category. Under controversial circumstances, he lost his bout to Yamaguchi Falcao Florentino.
Similarly, Commonwealth Games gold-medallist Manoj Kumar (64kg) stood just one win away from making the cut for Rio. Manoj beat Bulgaria’s Ismetov Ayrin Smetov 2-1.
