After the grand success of “Descendants of the Sun,” the creators of the megahit Korean drama have announced that they will remake a popular American television series “Criminal Minds” for the South Korean audience.
For this South Korean remake, the production company NEW has joined hands with the producers of another hit South Korean series, “Iris.” ABC Studios had produced “Iris” and owns the copyright of the CBS series and Disney Media Distribution to create the South Korean re-adaptation of the show depicting the lives of FBI profilers.
The Korean version of “Criminal Minds” will be the first remake of the US television series for audiences outside the country. NEW also announced that it will ask “Criminal Minds” fans for their favorite episodes and ideas to create the first season of the South Korean version, according to Yonhap.
“We will go through a completely different process of casting and filming,” NEW and Taewon Entertainment stated in a joint statement. Disney Media Distribution will be in charge of distributing the series to countries other than South Korea, China and Japan.
NEW had previously focused on films until their pre-produced drama “Descendants of the Sun” propelled them to hit-maker status. The pairing of Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo reignited the Hallyu wave all over China and across Asia. Because of this recent success, there is much anticipation for the outcome of NEW’s next drama, Soompi reported.
