Korean superstars Lee Min-ho and Jun Ji-hyun are coming together for an upcoming television series, which could have fetched a record price.
Seoul Broadcasting Station (SBS) said the A-listers will take the top roles in the series of which the Korean title is roughly translated as “Legend of the Blue Sea”, according to Yonhap. It also reported today that the new series, expected to air in November, is generating excitement among Korean drama fans as Park Ji-eun, the screenwriter of the mega-hit “My Love from the Star”, will write the script.
It was reported earlier this year that Jun Ji-hyun and Lee Min-ho were considering roles in Park Ji-eun’s new drama. In Park Ji-eun’s “My Love from the Star”, Jun Ji-hyun had starred and the drama was hugely popular in China. It was also reported that her new project was tentatively titled “Legend of the Blue Sea” and reportedly stars Jun Ji-hyun and Lee Min-ho.
With such big names attached to the project, the drama was inciting high interest from famous Chinese broadcasters, Soompi reported. One company had offered $500,000 for the licensing rights while the production company had hinted that the rights may go for as high as $600,000. “Descendants of the Sun” currently holds the record for the highest selling price at $270,000. “Legend of the Blue Sea (working title)” is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Little Mermaid”.
