Arunachalam Muruganantham is an award-winning social entrepreneur from India, better known as the nation’s ‘Menstruation Man’. Disturbed by the unhygienic menstruation practices among the rural women who could not afford sanitary napkins and instead used dirty rags, Muruganantham took it upon himself to find a solution to the problem. After several years of hard work, he invented a machine that women can use to produce their own sanitary napkins, at less than a third of the cost of commercial ones. People called him crazy and his wife left him, when he went around asking women to use his home-produced napkins and provide feedback. Now, thousands of his machines are used across the country and his is quite popular. But he refuses to share his invention to the corporate.
