Road rage claimed the life of a 40-year-old dentist who was allegedly bludgeoned to death with sticks and iron rods in west Delhi’s Vikaspuri area around midnight on Thursday. There were about 15 people who attacked him, out of which at least four were juveniles, the police said.
According to them, Pankaj Narang was standing outside his house when two men on a motorcycle brushed past him. The incident led to a scuffle after which the two left their bike there and fled.
A little while later the two – one a juvenile – returned with 13 others armed with hockey sticks and iron rods. The police said Narang was beaten up by them and suffered head injuries. They also thrashed people who came to the dentist’s rescue. While locals called the police at around midnight, the assailants fled before they arrived. Narang, who sustained a deep wound to his skull, was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
A case under charges of murder, attempt to murder, trespassing and rioting has been registered, the police said.
Eight people, including the two men who had come on the motorcycle, have been arrested, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Pushpendra Kumar said. “Police zeroed in on the accused, all of whom were found to be locals. By this morning, we apprehended eight of them. Efforts are on to nab the others,” Kumar said. Mr Narang is survived by his wife and an eight-year-old son.
