Cyclonic disturbances over Bay of Bengal hit the coastal areas of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, especially Chennai and Cuddalore, several times during November and early December, flooding cities, killing at least 250 people and rendering thousands homeless. It is termed as the worst spell of downpour in over a century. On December 1–2, 2015, Chennai received more rainfall in 24 hours than it had seen on any day since 1901. Several parts of Chennai still remain under water.
