Suzette Jordan, a woman who said she was gang-raped in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata in 2012 and went public about her ordeal following a national outcry about crimes against women, died on March 13 of meningoencephalitis.
The single mother of two girls was dubbed the “Park Street victim” after the road on which the attack was alleged to have occurred. Jordan revealed her identity on Indian TV to lend support to rape victims in the wake of a gang rape in Delhi in December 2012 that received worldwide attention.
