Ottawa’s ambassador to China has met with the second Canadian detained in China on suspicion of threatening national security, the Canadian Foreign Ministry said Sunday.
The ministry said Ambassador John McCallum had met with Michael Spavor, a business consultant, two days after meeting with another detained Canadian, Michael Kovrig, a think-tank employee.
“Canadian consular officials continue to provide consular services to him and his family and will continue to seek further access to Mr Spavor,” the ministry said.
China arrested the two men after Canada detained a senior executive from tech giant Huawei at the behest of the United States.
“We are being absolutely clear on standing up for our citizens who have been detained, trying to figure out why, trying to work with China to demonstrate that this not acceptable,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told Toronto’s Citytv on Friday.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also branded the arrests “unacceptable.”
Meng Wanzhou, Huawei’s chief financial officer, was released on bail in Vancouver Tuesday pending extradition to the US. She is accused of violating US sanctions on Iran.
Beijing threatened Canada with “grave consequences” if she was not freed.
Ottawa insists that the arrest was not political but rather a judicial process in keeping with an extradition treaty with Washington.

What’s the next step when China is as resolute as the US, saying the seizure of Chinese Executive Mrs. Weng is "unacceptable"?
Left unresolved, in this Age of Intercontinantal Nuclear Missiles, everything is possible.

These tiny color revolution fries will not be worth China National security attentions except for Trudeau stupidity.

*** Re meeting with Canadian ***
The two Canadians “are but [small fries, tiny little minnows, little potatoes] as compared to the classification of who or what Ms. Meng is” all about.
My opinion: the detaining of the Canadians by China are but a side show by Beijing to keep the Chinese masses calm and for them to not act irrationally and both sides (Cdn abd Chn) and the detainees knows full well what it’s all about.
Anyway, things don’t look good for Ms. Meng. The rep sent by the Canadian foreign ministry to Washington, my opinion. is not there to arrange a settlement in Ms. Meng’s. She is there to arrange paperworks and to discuss a speedy extradition of Ms. Meng to the US in the hopd it will calm the standoff.
Beijing, opinion, is more than likely give in as she does always in these matters. Sorry compatriots, but that is how I sees the leadership behind Zhongnanhai.
Seriously, I just don’t see Xi Jingping or any other Chinese leadership, Mao and Deng aside, as a Vladmir Putin or a Kim Jong-un of any caliber.
It’s just me folks. You may see differently.
