Sixteen people have been arrested in Hong Kong for allegedly working without permits. Police launched the raids on Monday in a joint operation with officials from the labor and immigration departments.
Locations in Yau Ma Tei and Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon were targeted in an operation codenamed “Champion,” the Chinese-language newspaper Oriental Daily reported.
A total of 11 men and five women, aged between 28 and 66, were taken into custody for allegedly breaching their conditions of stay, theft and possession of forged documents.
A 61-year-old local man was also arrested for allegedly employing illegal workers. The suspects were detained, pending further investigations.
