A video showing a rat running amok in a Starbucks coffee shop in Hong Kong went viral on social media. On Thursday night, a customer went to a Starbucks at Prince Tower on Peking Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, with his girlfriend and was surprised to see a rat appear inside the shop, Apple Daily reported.
Other customers at the coffee shop were frightened, while some female customers screamed and ran away.
A staffer tried to hit the rat with a broom and catch it but failed.
The rat toured the coffee shop, running from chairs to tables to the floor, for about 10 minutes until a customer grabbed the broom and a shovel and hit the rodent hard.
The broomstick broke in two and the rat was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Starbucks official said the company had arranged for a professional cleaning service to disinfect the coffee shop after the incident.
