Two Filipino-Chinese businessmen were arrested and authorities seized almost two kilograms of methamphetamine worth 13.6 million pesos (US$2 million) in Quezon City in the Philippines on Wednesday morning.
Operatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted a buy-bust operation and arrested the men, who were identified as Patrick Bankee, 44, and Alexander Jun Wah Ting Lee, 40, Manila Bulletin reported. The operation was conducted at 33 Don Ramon Street in Talayan Village in Quezon City. A PDEA officer said he posed as a buyer and managed to buy the illegal drug for 5,000 pesos from Bankee and Lee.
Jigger Montellana, the PDEA-Intelligence Investigation Service director, said the two men had been under surveillance for more than a week before they conducted the buy-bust operation. Montellana said the surveillance was initiated after receiving information from an informant.
Police said they recovered 15 plastic packets of methamphetamine worth 13.6 million pesos, numerous bank cards, four mobile phones and the 5,000 pesos buy-bust money.
The suspects were detained at the PDEA headquarters in Quezon City and face charges for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
