Tussle after kid steps on Hong Kong woman’s foot

Five people were arrested by Hong Kong police for allegedly fighting in a public area after a child from mainland China allegedly stepped on a Hong Kong passenger’s foot in a packed MTR carriage on Sunday.

According to a video sent by a passenger surnamed Chong to Apple Daily, she boarded the train at Wong Tai Sin MTR Station at around 3:20pm heading to Tsim Sha Tsui and saw five people including a couple from Hong Kong and a mainland Chinese family arguing.

It is understood that a girl from a mainland Chinese family stepped on the foot of a local woman. The woman and her boyfriend demanded an apology but the request was turned down.

Police identified the Hong Kong couple as a man surnamed Yeung and a woman surnamed Chan, both aged 27. The mainlanders were a husband and wife surnamed Wang, 31 and 28, who were accompanied by the husband’s 54-year-old mother, surnamed Liu, and a young girl believed to be the couple’s daughter, news website HK01.com reported.

The video showed the five people yelling at each other. Yeung was heard explaining to the family that it was the little girl who had stepped on someone and that that was not right. He then reportedly tried to end the argument.

However, all of a sudden, a fight broke out in the middle of the carriage, causing the little girl and other passengers to scream.

The fight stopped when they arrived in Tsim Sha Tsui Station. Police arrested all five people for allegedly fighting in a public area. All of them suffered injuries to their heads, faces and hands, but all refused to be taken to hospital for treatment.
