A Japanese businessman and a Filipino woman were arrested on Thursday and charged with selling illegal drugs in Zamboanga City in the Philippines.
Police arrested Hiroyuki Takahashi, 59, and Mary Jane Huerto, 43, along Don Toribio street in Barangay Tetuan during a buy-bust operation, the Mindanao Examiner reported.
According to Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Luis Licup, the Police Regional Office Zamboanga Peninsula director, the two were caught selling methamphetamine hydrochloride, or ice, to undercover agents.
The Japanese man had been living in Zamboanga City for the past six years. However, it was not known if he was part of a drug syndicate. Little about him was known and there was no immediate statement from the Japanese embassy or the Department of Foreign Affairs on Takahashi’s arrest.
Authorities recovered four packets of drugs and PHP200 in marked money used by the agents to buy the drugs. Licup said the two were detained at the Police Station 6 headquarters where charges will be filed against them.
