An Indonesian woman who is assumed to be a domestic worker has been heavily criticised by social media users in Singapore after posting videos of herself poking fun at an elderly wheelchair-bound woman.
Taken by live-streaming app Tik Tok, also known as Douyin, the video has unexpectedly gone viral on various social media platforms, including Facebook pages like All Singapore Stuff, Lianhe Wanbao (Singapore) reported. Viewers on all platforms were strongly critical.
In the first part of the music-filled video, the maid can be seen recording herself while kneading the elderly woman’s face and chin to the beat of the pop song Sugar, by American pop-rock band Maroon 5.
Later in the video the elderly woman appears to be annoyed and tries to push the maid’s hand away, seemingly because she is being poked in her shoulder and face with the maid’s finger to the beat of music.
Underneath the video is the caption “main sm nene”, which translates to “playing with grandma”. The verdict by online viewers? Most rated the domestic worker’s behavior as “extremely disrespectful”.
