Wildlife officials in India rescued a leopard cub after it was found trapped in a village well 25-foot deep.
On March 13, rescuers from the group Wildlife SOS were called to the Pondvadi Lakhangaon village in Manchar town in Pune, Maharashtra, UPI reported. A farmer spotted the leopard cub when he turned on the motor to the pump in the well.
The rescue operation was recorded on video and shows the little cub being hauled up inside a rescue cage. According to rescuers, the baby leopard will be in the care of the Forest Department until it is healthy enough to be released back into the wild.
The Indian leopard is listed as a vulnerable species on the IUCN Red List due to the loss of its habitat as well as the threat of poaching. Statistics indicate there are about 12,000 to 14,000 leopards in the country.
