A raid by the authorities at a prison in Bali turned up a number of forbidden items being held by prisoners in the facility.
On March 1, more than 900 officers from the National Police, the Indonesian Military (TNI), the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and the Law and Human Rights Ministry took part in the raid at the Kerobokan Penitentiary in Bali to look for drugs, The Jakarta Post reported.
While the raid did not find any drugs, they did find five bongs (drug smoking pipes), 14 mobile phones, a power bank, six pairs of scissors, a DVD player, two rice cookers and a television.
Slamet Prihantara, the corrections division head of the Law and Human Rights Ministry’s office in Bali said a further investigation will be conducted as a follow-up, as drugs were not found at the scene.
The warden of the penitentiary Tonny Nainggolan said the raid was conducted to prepare the facility for Nyepi, the Day of Silence, next week,
Police chief Ruddi Setiawan, the leader of the raid, said the raid was a good way to prevent the movement of narcotics in the prison.
Nyepi is a “Day of Silence” that is commemorated every year. The Balinese spend the day in silence while they fast and meditate.
