A Filipino domestic worker who claims she received numerous death threats from her employer in Saudi Arabia has been repatriated to the Philippines. Reynalyn Constantino, 43, who had been working in Jeddah since December, said that several weeks after she started her job, she was accused of stealing and her employer threatened to kill her, GMA News reported.

Constantino sought help from her recruitment agency, which stepped and took custody of her until her exit clearance was processed. However, the employer took Constantino back to work.

Philippine congressman John Bertiz III took charge of Constantino’s repatriation to the Philippines and assisted her and her family. He said the worker’s local recruitment agency was contacted, it was able to expedite her repatriation.

Bertiz said Constantino was far from the only Filipino domestic worker to experience threats while working overseas. Since 2010, more than 11,000 Filipinos have been repatriated from the Middle East during times of crisis.

Bertiz said around 25% of the Filipino migrant workers in Saudi Arabia experienced abuse and maltreatment, He said distressed Filipinos should seek help from the Philippine Embassy so they can return home to the Philippines.
