德國媒體上周四報道，德國政府正試圖反對任何限制中國電信設備製造商華為建設5G網絡的政策。亞洲時報（Asiatimes.com）報導
同樣在上周四，意大利政府否認了將禁止華為提供5G服務的報導。
當地媒體當天較早時曾報道，羅馬準備禁止使用中國公司的設備。但據《路透社》報導，意大利工業部長迅速糾正了這一說法，稱「我們無意採取任何此類措施」 。
德國總理默克爾的參謀長布朗（Helge Braun）以及德國外交、民政、經濟、金融和基礎設施部門宣佈了一致的立場，即該國不會禁止華為。
然而，《德國日報》警告稱，該國5G拍賣完成前尚未定錘的新規則可能會限制華為。
華盛頓加大力度說服盟友不要使用華為的設備，但是華為明顯受到歡迎。中國電信設備製造商迅速崛起，成為5G網絡技術發展的領導者。
繼美國成功招募澳洲後，最近幾個月以國家安全為由詆毀華為的運動已停滯不前。與德國和意大利一樣，英國和法國政府迄今拒絕表示他們將禁止華為。工業集團警告說，這樣做會對該地區的商業造成打擊。
加拿大仍在考慮禁止華為的5G產品。上周四，該國最大的電信和媒體集團BCE表示，目前的政策不會影響該公司推出新一代超快網絡的計劃。
據行業專家稱，華為的歐洲競爭對手愛立信和諾基亞遠遠落後於華為。目前還沒有美國公司能夠提供5G網絡所需的核心設備。
觀察人士表示，華盛頓最後一刻試圖阻止華為進入國際市場的舉動為時已晚，反映出其缺乏促進競爭力的國內政策。
對於美國的盟國來說，對華為採用對抗性的方案可能會損害與中國的關係，中國是一個重要的國家，或者說是他們最重要的貿易夥伴。
加拿大見證了這一點。華為首席財務官孟晚舟去年12月在加拿大被捕後引起了北京的強烈反對。中國警告加拿大，如果不釋放孟晚舟將面臨嚴重後果。這一決定可能會使加拿大違反與美國的引渡條約。
那些對國家安全風險的擔憂源於電信設備本身的性質，以及要求網絡運營商向政府提供「技術支持和幫助」的中國網絡安全法。
中國將美國及其盟國提出的擔憂視為「恐懼販賣」。針對華盛頓的批評者指出，美國公司曾與美國情報機構合作。
華為表示，絕不會考慮通過向中國政府移交數據來出賣客戶，因為這種做法將是「商業自殺」。
意大利內部的爭論與其他歐洲國家一樣，即網絡供應商的商業利益與國防官員的建議相衝突。
法國網絡提供商Orange和英國的BT集團都宣布，他們將限制對華為無線網絡核心組件的依賴。
在美國市場，大型電信公司多年來一直面臨著不與華為合作的政治壓力，並且兩黨都支持針對華為和中興立法。中興也是開發5G網絡關鍵設備的主力軍之一。
