지난해는 비트코인을 비롯한 암호화폐 투자자들에게 끔찍한 시간이었다. 1년 동안 암호화폐 시장에서 7,000억 달러가 빠져나가면서 비트코인 가격은 84% 폭락했다. 하지만 급격한 상승은 필연적으로 급격한 하락으로 이어진다. 세계 어떤 자산 시장에서나 이런 현상이 거듭 목격된다.
이제 일부 전문가들은 상승 주기가 다시 시작되면서 암호화폐 가격이 본격 반등할 것으로 점치고 있다. 블룸버그 통신은 새로운 분석 방법을 동원해서 향후 6개월 동안 최장 기간의 암호화폐 ‘매수 흐름’이 나타날 것이란 신호들이 등장하고 있다고 보도했다.
이와 같은 긍정적 전망은 과거 비트코인 랠리를 예상했던 GTI 베라 컨버전시 발산(GTI VERA Convergence Divergence) 지수 분석을 토대로 한 것이다. 블룸버그는 연초 나타났던 매수 압력이 지속된다고 가정했을 때 비트코인은 추가 상승이 예상된다고 전망했다. 이 전망대로 된다면, 비트코인 외의 다른 암호화폐도 마침내 반등에 성공할 것이다.
이토로의 선임 시장 분석가 매티 그린스펀은 “통상 싸게 사서 비싸게 파는 게 최선이다”며 “기술 분석을 해보면 차트상 암호화폐 가격이 고점보다는 저점에 훨씬 더 가까운 상태임을 아주 쉽게 알 수 있다”고 말했다.
그는 또한 “새로운 프로젝트가 등장하고, 암호화폐 스타트업들이 채용을 늘리는 등 업계가 빠른 속도로 성장하고 있다”고 덧붙였다. 하지만 앞서 <아시아 타임스>가 보도했듯이 이런 긍정적인 분위기가 현재 전혀 다른 모습을 보이고 있는 암호화폐 채굴 산업으로 확산되기는 어려워 보인다.
블룸버그는 자체적으로 시가총액 상위 암호화폐들을 추적하는 갤럭시 크립토 지수(Galaxy Crypto Index)를 갖고 있다. 이 지수 역시 강력한 ‘매수’ 신호를 보내고 있다. 이는 암호화폐 가격이 바닥에 가까워졌다는 신호일 수 있다.
암호화폐 전문 신용등급회사인 바이스 레이팅(Weiss Ratings) 역시 최신 전망 보고서를 통해서 올해 암호화폐 시장에서 중대한 일이 벌어질 것으로 전망했다. 이 회사의 독립 주식․금융 분석가들은 비트코인이 올해 ‘디지털 골드’(digital gold)처럼 되고, 가치 저장수단으로써의 입지를 다질 것으로 내다봤다. 이들은 또한 올해 비트코인 가격이 이전 고점인 2만 달러를 넘어서면서 신고점을 찍을 것으로 예상했다. 자신이 없는 투자자들은 이미 시장을 떠났지만, 암호화폐 기술과 철학에 대한 믿음이 확고한 사람들은 화폐 매수를 더 늘렸다는 분석이다.
시장은 주기에 따라 움직이기 때문에 강세장 뒤엔 약세장이 오고, 반대로 약세장 뒤엔 강세장이 오기 마련이다. 현실적으로 올해 암호화폐 시장이 작년보다 훨씬 더 나빠지리라고 보기 힘든 이유다.
