A young woman who threatened to commit suicide after learning that her boyfriend is married was saved by police officers at a public housing estate in Ma On Shan, the New Territories on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old woman surnamed Lee was found sitting on a 23rd floor ledge in Yiu On Estate at 6am, Apple Daily reported.

It is understood that Lee went to an apartment in Yiu Yan House, planning to surprise her boyfriend with a visit. However, when a woman opened the door, Lee realized that her boyfriend was married.

Lee became emotionally distraught, climbed over a fence and sat on a ledge on the 23rd floor.

Firemen answered the emergency call and set up a safety mattress at ground level.

Police negotiators were called in. After talking to Lee for two hours, they finally convinced her to come to safety, Sing Tao Daily reported.

Lee refused to be sent to hospital for medical examination and she left the scene alone. Officers found nothing suspicious about the case.
