Hong Kong has welcomed the first five newborns of the year 2018. A baby boy, weighing 3.45 kilograms, was born at Hong Kong Baptist Hospital in Kowloon just eight seconds after the clock struck 12 to first-time parents Imma Chan and Pan Cheung, am730 reported.

Just 47 seconds later, a baby girl, Ka-lam, which means “beautiful gems,” was born at the same hospital. Ka-lam is the second child of  Rebecca Yau and Ken Chan.

Meanwhile, two British expatriate couples welcomed baby boys at Matilda International Hospital on Hong Kong Island.

A 3.69-kilo boy named Jasper Seresin Bradley was born in the 28th second of 2018 to Shan and Samuel Bradley, Oriental Daily reported.

The mother told media that she was supposed to give birth on December 23 and thought little Jasper would have been a Christmas baby, but it turned out he was a New Year’s baby.

The fourth child was another boy weighing 3.28 kilos, who was born at the 14th minute of the new year at Matilda International Hospital. He was the third child of Stephanie Holding and Anand Shah, a British family who have been living in Hong Kong for seven years.

A 3.25-kilo baby girl was born in the 48th minute of 2018 at Princess Margaret Hospital in Kwai Chung in the New Territories.
