A 26-year-old Filipino migrant worker was detained after being spotted using a stolen vehicle’s license plate on his racing motorbike during a journey with his girlfriend, also 26, to a motel in Luzhu district of Kaohsiung, southwestern Taiwan.
The couple, both migrant workers from the Philippines, were seen carrying bags of KFC takeaways and riding a racing motorcycle on Minyou Road, attracting the attention of two police officers from Hunei Precinct of Kaohsiung City Police Department, The Real Daily reported on Monday.
The officers ran a check of the license plate on the M-Police system, which indicated that it was a stolen vehicle. The pair were intercepted and detained.
The man told police that he had bought the motorbike from a used-car dealer, but had obtained a license plate at random from a parked car, which was coincidentally a stolen vehicle.
The Filipino called the incident bad luck, as he and his lover were on their days off and had been heading to a motel for some good times together.
