Two elderly men lost a total of HK$146,000 (US$18,700) worth of jewelry and cash when their apartments were burgled in the same Happy Valley residence on Hong Kong Island on Tuesday evening.
A 71-year-old expatriate came home at 9pm to his Winfield Gardens apartment on 34-40 Shan Kwong Road to find a thief had stolen jewelry worth HK$121,000 and HK$5,000 in local and foreign currencies, Oriental Daily reported.
He called the police, who later found that another flat in the same building had also been broken into, with the 78-year-old owner losing HK$5,000 in jewelry and HK$15,000 cash.
Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department in Wan Chai District are investigating.
