Hong Kong police officers arrested a 48-year-old suspect in Kwun Tong on Wednesday over his alleged involvement in a rape and robbery case in Kowloon Bay early on Sunday morning.
At 6am, police officers arrested the man, surnamed Lam, in Sau Mau Ping Estate in Kwun Tong and brought him to his home nearby to collect evidence, RTHK reported.
The jobless man had a criminal record, including robbery and burglary, and had been jailed before, Apple Daily reported, citing an unnamed source.
Oriental Daily reported that police officers had checked closed circuit television footage in some sport grounds, where the suspect may have bought bottled water from a vending machine to remove evidence.
At 12.30am on Sunday, a man followed a 22-year-old woman who was walking home alone after her part-time job in Kowloon Bay. The student is also studying for a diploma.
The man grabbed her iPhone 6s and wallet at the footbridge near exit B of the Kowloon Bay MTR station, then fled. The victim chased after the suspect as far as the footbridge on Kwun Tong Road, but was then abducted by the man, who raped her over the course of four hours. She untied herself after an hour.
