For the controversial Indian film “Udta Punjab” to be screened in Pakistani theaters, its Central Board of Film Censors (CBFC) has reportedly suggested over 100 cuts but the makers of the movie have refused to make any changes. Latest news updates indicated that “Udta Punjab” may not be released in Pakistan.

“Udta Punjab” producers are in a Catch 22 situation, where denying cuts and avoiding Pakistan will lead to revenue loss and accepting the 100-odd cuts would render the movie meaningless.

In India, the censor board suggested 89 cuts but the movie producers sought judicial intervention. After a High Court battle, the movie was released with a single cut in India, last week. Its producers may not want to take the same course of action in Pakistan.

Its first week performance in India has been outstanding, collecting Rs42.3 crore in revenue in the first five days alone.
