Reports follow terror arrest
Blasts have been heard in the Molenbeek district of Brussels where police have arrested the most wanted fugitive from November’s Paris attacks, Belgian media reported on Friday.
Public state broadcaster RTBF, showed footage of smoke and said an explosion had been heard, but its exact nature was not clear.
Reports said earlier that Salah Abdeslam, the key suspect in the November 13 Paris attacks, has been captured alive on Friday evening in a vast anti-terror operation at Vierwindenstraat 79 in the Brussels borough of Molenbeek.
Belgian broadcaster RTBF said Abdeslam was injured after being shot in the leg. He has been admitted to a hospital.
A second suspect was also apprehended. He too sustained a leg wound.
Ambulances and firefighters were on the scene after the police operation began around 5 pm.
At least one man remained holed up in the Molenbeek apartment, Le Soir reported, citing a police source.
Belgian media had earlier reported shots being heard in the area after the launch of a vast anti-terror operation linked to the Paris attacks.
