The Philippine hero known as “Pacman” faces another huge struggle next year, but it won’t be in the ring.

Manny Pacquaio, who really should retire from boxing after pushing Floyd Mayweather around for a dozen rounds Saturday night, Sunday midday in the Philippines, is likely to run for the Philippine Senate as a member of the opposition United Nationalist Alliance in elections a year from now. Given his popularity and name recognition among the Philippines’ 100 million people, he would seem like a pretty sure bet in elections in which all senators are elected on nationwide ballots, not by region.
