Mystery still shrouds the identity of the sixth victim of a weekend helicopter crash which killed Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis, Malaysia’s former ambassador to the U.S., according to a report by the Star Online.
Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak’s chief of staff was also among the six people killed in the crash on Saturday. The Prime Minister’s Office said the helicopter was carrying guests back from a wedding reception for Najib’s daughter.
The Star quoted a Kuala Lumpur Hospital spokesman as saying the identity of the victim, described in some reports to be a woman, had yet to be ascertained. Some local media had reported that her name was Aidana Baizieva. She was said to be a Kyrgyzstan national.
Yesterday, the Star said a woman believed to be a relative of Baizieva’s arrived at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital’s mortuary to assist with investigations.
She reportedly arrived at the morgue at about 10.45am yesterday with a Kyrgyzstan embassy official. The woman refused to speak to reporters, who were barred from entering the premises.
Baizieva was earlier reported to be the helicopter’s co-pilot.
Kyrgyzstan Ambassador to Malaysia Kylychbek Sultanov said in an interview that his embassy was working to confirm the sixth passenger’s identity via DNA, and the results would be known within the next few days. Sultanov was quoted by the Star as saying that Baizieva had graduated from SEGi University in Selangor last year and had been working as a restaurant manager in Malaysia.
Clifford Fournier, a U.S. national, was the helicopter’s pilot. He was also killed in the crash. Read more
